With alternative
medicine rising high on the popularity scale, aromatherapy, an
age-old science, is being revived in the city thanks to The Address,
a lifestyle boutique. Deepika Goel of Shakun's Natures Own, a
Chennai-based herbal company, visited the store recently to councel
people on the uses and benefits of aromatherapy.
Aromatherapy is a system of
healing which involves the use of pure essential oils. These
fragrant oils have been distilled from various parts of plants.
flowers, herbs and trees, each of which have different therapeutic
properties. Deepika mastered the art of aromatherapy from her
mother-in-law, Shakun who has done several extensive courses in the
subject. "Everyone has a problem and physical ailments usually
stem from mental stress and fatigue," says Deepika. For
instance, blood pressure can be treated by using a blend of aromas
titled Harmony and Tranquility. Aroma concoctions are also available
for physical maladies such as asthma, cold, cough, migraine,
rheumatism and more. Using the appropriate mixtures can also control
emotional conditions such as depression, grief and insomnia among
others. Deepika suggests continued aromatherapy till the particular
illness is completely cured and thereafter once a week for
maintenance.
The Aroma Bar at The Address
stocks a variety of interesting items that can be used to soothe the
body, mind and soul. Fragrant bath oils come in three sizes and cost
Rs.65 onwards while bath salts are priced between Rs.45 and Rs.295.
Pumice stones with in-built scrubs cost Rs.40 and come in an array
of pleasing scents such as coffee, rose and more. This apart, aroma
soaps are priced at Rs.45 while beautiful candles in gel and
paraffin wax cost Rs.75. Also found on the shelf are terracotta
